Relief that reaches your body and your mind.
In-person EMDR therapy in Houston (Montrose) and Missouri City. For adults, teens, & kids (5+). Online EMDR across Texas.
“I’ve done therapy. I’ve done the work. Why am I still stuck?”
You’ve talked it through. You’ve read the books. And still, your body stays on high alert: heart racing, jaw clenched, sleep broken by nightmares, and emotions hitting so fast you can’t catch them in time. You keep telling yourself, “I should be over this by now,” but your nervous system didn’t get that memo.
At Therapy & Mor, we get it. Many of us have been there, too. EMDR therapy for trauma is about helping your body finally catch up to what you already know, so you can break the patterns, feel real relief, and start living your life like it’s yours again.
If you’ve tried talk therapy for trauma and feel like those flashbacks and high-anxiety moments still show up, maybe it’s time for a deeper approach.
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a body-based, trauma-focused therapy that helps your brain reprocess stuck memories and experiences so they no longer run your present-day reactions.
Trauma therapy at Therapy & Mor is not about forcing you to relive everything or pushing you faster than you’re ready for. It’s about going at the pace that works for you and your unique lived experience.
This is Therapy & Mor, where you get therapy and more: Warmth. Skill. Collaboration. Real tools. We work with you, not on you, because we believe you’re the expert on yourself. We know you have the capacity to heal; you just need a lending hand.
We’ll walk alongside you as you reconnect to your body, trust yourself again, and change your course to start building a life that feels more open and truly yours.

Challenges EMDR Therapy Can Help With
Trauma, PTSD & Complex PTSD
When past experiences still feel present, EMDR for PTSD, complex PTSD, and other forms of trauma helps your system finally process what happened, so it stops taking over your day.
Anxiety & Panic
Racing heart, panic attacks, constant alertness, or feeling like you can’t ever fully relax can be difficult to live with. EMDR and trauma therapy help calm your nervous system from the inside out.
Anger Management
Big reactions, quick frustration, lashing out, or shutting down are not always easy to keep under control. EMDR helps you pause, respond differently, and feel more in control.
Burnout & Chronic Stress
Living in survival mode takes a toll. Trauma-informed therapy and EMDR help your body exit constant stress and rebuild capacity gently.
Dissociation & Disengagement from Life
When you’re feeling numb, disconnected, or not fully here, EMDR and trauma therapy help rebuild reconnection at a pace that feels safe.
Addiction
When coping behaviors formed to survive are now causing harm, trauma therapy helps address the root, not just the symptom.
Conflict & Relationship Patterns
Old wounds showing up in current relationships can be taxing. EMDR helps shift patterns that talking alone hasn’t touched.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
Trauma-focused care supports emotional regulation, self-trust, and stability over time, so that big emotions and impulsive feelings don’t get in the way of your life or relationships anymore.

How EMDR Works at Therapy & Mor
Our eight-step EMDR therapy process is thoughtful, collaborative, and paced with care. We go as fast as we can, and as slow as we must.
1. History & Planning
We start with a free consultation call to make sure it feels like a good fit. If it does, you will schedule your first appointment, complete intake paperwork, and your therapist will review your history and ask questions. Together, we identify themes, clarify goals, and create a plan that fits you.
2. Preparation
Before any deeper processing, we build stability first. You will strengthen coping skills, grounding tools, and emotional regulation, and we will build rapport so you feel supported. You’ll also share more details about your history, so your treatment plan matches your specific circumstances.
3. Assessment
We choose a specific memory or experience to target, and identify the emotions, body sensations, and beliefs connected to it, so we know exactly what we are working with.
4. Desensitization
Using bilateral stimulation, including eye movements, we process the memory until it loses intensity and stops hijacking your day.
5. Installation
We strengthen a more helpful belief, like “I’m safe now,” “I have a choice,” or “I can handle this,” so it feels true in your body, not just in your head.
6. Body Scan
We check for any lingering distress or tension in your body and clear what is still stuck.
7. Closure
Every session ends with grounding and support, so you leave feeling steady and not cracked open.
8. Reevaluation
At the start of each session, we check in on what you noticed during the week. You will keep a simple log of triggers, dreams, emotions, body responses, and shifts. Together, we decide whether to revisit a target or move forward. Every few weeks, we zoom out, review progress, and adjust the plan as needed, and many clients begin noticing relief within a few weeks.

Questions About EMDR Therapy for Trauma
Can you heal from PTSD?
Yes, healing from PTSD is possible. Talk therapy can be helpful for insight and understanding, but research consistently shows that deeper trauma therapy approaches like EMDR are especially effective for long-term healing. At Therapy & Mor, we use a combination of talk therapy, EMDR therapy, and other trauma therapy approaches to support real, lasting change.
Why does EMDR work when other treatments haven’t?
Trauma is stored in the body, not just the mind. That is why your body reacts before you can think your way through it. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help your nervous system process stuck memories, so they stop triggering the same emotional and physical responses. EMDR work at the level where trauma actually lives.
Can I do EMDR therapy online, or do I have to come in person?
Both are options. EMDR therapy can be done in person or online, depending on your needs, comfort level, and circumstances. Your therapist will help you decide whether in-person EMDR in Houston or virtual trauma therapy across Texas is the best fit.
What if my trauma feels too complex for EMDR?
EMDR therapy was developed specifically for trauma and C-PTSD or complex PTSD. Your trauma therapist in Houston or Sugar Land will take a detailed history, help you build coping skills, and move at a pace that feels supportive and safe. We go as fast as we can, and as slow as we must.
Can I use insurance for EMDR or trauma therapy?
Yes. You can use insurance for EMDR therapy and trauma therapy sessions, just like other therapy services. One benefit of therapy like EMDR is that, when appropriate, you may attend multiple sessions per week. You can use insurance for this. Some clients also choose therapy intensives, or extended sessions, which are typically self-pay, as insurance does not cover multiple hours of therapy in one day. If any of these options are of interest to you, our office manager or your therapist can help you explore them in more detail.
I’ve heard trauma therapy can make things worse before it gets better. Is that true?
Yes and no. Trauma therapy can be emotionally demanding, and healing looks different for everyone. It can help to think of it like emotional surgery. When deeper wounds are opened, there may be temporary discomfort as your nervous system settles. Your Houston trauma therapist will help with grounding, containment, and coping strategies between sessions. When you attend consistently and communicate openly, many adults, teens, and kids notice relief within a few weeks, and some experience meaningful shifts within the first few sessions.
