When did we grow so far apart?
You didn’t get here overnight. Somewhere in the midst of jobs, raising kids, and the weight of everyday life, your relationship quietly got pushed aside. And now you’re here, facing a distance, a breach of trust, or a loss of intimacy you never saw coming.
At Therapy & Mor, we see both of you. We know how much a strong connection matters, and we're here to help you work through the challenges you’re facing so you can rediscover yours.
When every conversation becomes a fight, or the fighting has stopped altogether, and silence has taken its place, it’s easy to find yourself feeling more like roommates than partners, going through the motions while something essential slips away.
Couples therapy is where you slow it all down, figure out what’s gotten in the way, and start building something better together. With the right support, most couples find that beneath the conflict, the distance, and the exhaustion, there’s still something worth returning to.
At Therapy & Mor, you get exactly that: therapy, and more. Real tools. Honest conversations. A space where both of you feel heard. We don’t take sides. We work with your relationship, because your partnership is worth fighting for.

What is
Couples Therapy?
Even couples who love each other deeply can find themselves miles apart.
Couples Therapy in Houston & Missouri City, TX
What Brings Couples to Therapy
Couples therapy for adults in Houston, TX, offers space to stop going through the motions and start finding your way back to each other. At Therapy & Mor, we work with couples in Montrose, Missouri City, and online across Texas who are ready to do something about the distance between them.
Lack of Connection
You’re in the same house, the same bed, the same routine, but something is missing. When closeness fades, and you can’t remember the last time you felt like a team, therapy helps you understand what’s disconnected and how to get it back.
Communication Breakdown
Every conversation turns into a fight, or nothing gets said at all. Couples therapy in Houston, TX, gives you both the skills and the language to hear each other before reacting.
Healing from Infidelity
Infidelity is one of the most painful experiences a couple can face. It doesn’t automatically mean the end. With the right support, many couples work through it and come out with a relationship that is more honest and more grounded than before.
Feeling Like Roommates
When the intimacy, romance, and spark have gone quiet, and your relationship feels more functional than fulfilling, therapy for couples in Houston, TX, helps you reconnect as partners, not just as people who share a calendar.
Jealousy & Anxiety
Constant worry, suspicion, or emotional reactivity can wear a relationship down fast. Couples counseling in Houston, TX, helps you understand where those patterns come from and how to respond to each other with respect and trust.
Silent Divorce
Sometimes couples stop fighting because they’ve quietly stopped trying. A silent divorce can feel like peace on the surface, but underneath it’s a slow kind of grief. If this sounds familiar, therapy can help you figure out whether there’s a path forward together.
Coparenting Without Connection
When kids are in the picture, it’s easy to lose yourselves in the logistics of parenting and forget you are also partners. Therapy helps you reconnect as a couple, not just as coparents, so your whole family benefits.
Finances & In-Law Stress
Money and family dynamics are two of the most common sources of ongoing tension in a relationship. Therapy helps you navigate these pressure points together instead of letting them drive a wedge between you.
Considering Separation
Sometimes couples arrive at therapy wondering if staying together is the right choice. Whether your goal is to repair the relationship or make a thoughtful decision about separation, your couples therapist will support you through it with honesty and care.

Our Couples Therapy Methods & More
No two couples are in the same place, and your therapy shouldn’t feel cookie cutter either. At Therapy & Mor, we tailor care to where you are and where you want to go.
The Gottman Method
Rooted in decades of research on what makes relationships work, the Gottman Method helps couples understand their patterns, rebuild trust, and deepen friendship and intimacy. It’s structured, evidence-based, and built for real couples dealing with real problems.
Gottman Relationship Assessment
Before your first session together, each partner completes a Gottman Relationship Assessment separately. This gives your Houston couples therapist a clear, honest picture of where each of you stands so your sessions can be focused and effective from the start.
Couples Institute Method
Developed by Ellyn Bayer and Pete Pearson, this approach looks at how each partner’s individual growth shapes the relationship. When one or both people are stuck in old patterns, defenses, or unresolved personal work, it shows up between you. This method helps each of you grow as individuals, so the relationship can grow too.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
EFT helps couples identify the emotional cycles that keep them stuck and find new ways to respond to each other with openness and vulnerability. When you understand the emotional needs underneath the conflict, everything starts to shift.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
For couples where unhelpful thought patterns are fueling conflict, avoidance, or distance, CBT helps you both notice what’s driving reactions and gives you practical tools to change course.
Psychoeducation on Attachment & Attunement
Understanding how each of you is wired, what you need to feel safe, and how to tune in to each other is foundational work. Your couples therapist in Houston will help you build that understanding together so deeper connection becomes more natural over time.
Skills-Based Tools
This is the “therapy and more” part. You’ll leave couples or marriage counseling sessions with practical tools for communication, conflict repair, and staying connected between appointments. Skills that work in the car, in the kitchen, and everywhere real life happens.

Questions About Couples Therapy
Is all of the work done together, or do we do any of it separately?
Both. You each complete an initial assessment on your own, so your couples therapist gets an honest picture of where each of you stands. Then you come in together for your first session. After that, you’ll each have at least one individual session with your Houston couples or marriage therapist before continuing on as a couple. If the process reveals that one or both of you could benefit from individual therapy alongside couples work, that will become clear naturally as you go.
Can I use insurance for couples therapy?
Yes, with a few exceptions. The initial Gottman Relationship Assessment is paid out of pocket. Standard one-hour couples therapy sessions can be covered by insurance. If you and your partner prefer longer 90-minute or 100-minute sessions, those are paid privately.
What if we realize that separating is the healthiest path forward?
Sometimes couples come into therapy hoping to repair things, and through the process, come to understand that separation is the most honest way forward. That is a valid outcome, not a failure. Your Houston couples therapist will support you through that transition with the same care and commitment. You can continue sessions to work through the details of separation or divorce, and individual therapy can be a valuable support during that time as well.
What if my partner won't come to sessions or won't open up?
Couples therapy works best when both partners show up and engage. The tools you learn together are most powerful when you’re both practicing them. That said, if only one of you is willing to come, you will still gain real insight, skills, and perspective just by being there. Sometimes, one person starting the process is what eventually brings the other in. If you want to explore more of what this could look like for you, book a free consultation, and we’ll find the best path forward.
What does support look like between couples therapy sessions?
You won’t be left on your own between appointments. Each therapist has their own approach to between-session support, so ask your provider directly, but as a general rule, you’re welcome to reach out if something comes up. If you need more frequent sessions or if one partner would benefit from additional individual support, that can be arranged within the practice.
Can therapy save a relationship after infidelity?
It can, and for many couples it does. Healing from infidelity is hard work, but with the right support, it is possible to rebuild trust, restore intimacy, and come out the other side with a relationship that is more honest and more connected than before. The Gottman Method, which we use here at Therapy & Mor, has a strong track record of helping couples navigate infidelity and find a genuine path forward.
Is online couples therapy as effective?
Yes. Research consistently shows that online therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person care, and many couples find it easier to show up consistently when they can do so from home. At Therapy & Mor, we offer couples therapy online across Texas so that access is never the thing standing between you and support.
Will I be blamed, or feel ganged up on?
No. A good couples therapist is not a referee, and it is not their job to decide who is right. Our therapists are trained to hold space for both partners equally, so both of you feel heard, not put on trial. If at any point the process feels unbalanced, you are always encouraged to say so.
How long does couples therapy typically last?
It depends on what brought you in and how long those patterns have been in place. Some couples notice a meaningful shift within just a few sessions. Others benefit from several months of consistent work. Your couples therapist will check in with you regularly on your progress and adjust the pace based on what you need.
Can therapy help if we're not married or not planning to stay together?
Absolutely. Couples therapy is for any two people in a committed relationship, married or not. And therapy does not require that staying together is the goal. Whether you are working toward repair, trying to coparent more peacefully, or navigating a separation with care and respect, therapy can support you through it.
